Established in Mumbai in the year 2000 by founding members Neesha Alwani and Shruti Jalan, n+s architects | interior designers | planners was later rebranded to ns*a Architecture and Interiors in the year 2019.
Our practice is dedicated to provide optimal solutions that result in a functionally, aesthetically and an economically built environment tailored to fulfill the requirements of our clients. We have been involved with crafting various spaces ranging from residential, retail, office and hospitality projects. Our involvement with projects of varying scales ranging from a private residence to boutique hotels has enabled us to romanticize and at the same time rationalize our approach to design. Our area of expertise lies in understanding the project’s requirements and implementing our skills to fabricate an environment that meets the needs of the client at the same time taking into consideration the surrounding to create a perfect fit. Our deep understanding of the nature of the practice enables us to micromanage various aspects of the project – right from design development, to attention to detail, to keeping the project within limits set by the clients and finally realizing their dream. There is great pleasuring in knowing that our thoughts can be translated into graphical representations that evolve into built environments suitable for various functions. Architecture is metamorphosis of an idea into reality……….a process that creates a positive space from a negative.
We approach every project with a fresh outlook – a process which involves composing a thought, a concept, functional requirements, and aesthetic sensibilities. During the process we collaborate with experts from multiple disciplines, namely structural consultants, furniture designers, landscape architects, artists and sculptors who have the expertise to amalgamate their thoughts with our vision…Thus, creating a language which is unique to an individual project. The language of design is dictated by the choice of materials and the details one implements in the execution. Taking into account the functionality of the space, materials are carefully selected to ensure timeless appeal and sustainability. We strive to find the right balance between functionality, aesthetics and economics which results in a well-balanced design. Our experimental and at the same time pragmatic approach has helped the firm evolve into a dynamic design practice with its own definitive language and principles. Over the years our work has appeared in magazines and online publications.
Neesha Alwani
Design Principal
Neesha has received her Bachelor’s of Architecture from Kamla Raheja Vidhyanidhi Institute of Architecture, Mumbai in the year 1998. After completing her thesis on energy conscious architecture – A Renewable Energy Research Institute, she worked with Nozer Wadia Associates followed by Ranjit Sinh Associates on a wide variety of Architecture and Interior projects. Her area of expertise lies in understanding the client’s requirements and implementing her skills to fabricate an environment that meets the needs of the client at the same time taking into consideration the surrounding to create a perfect fit. Her involvement and hands on approach has enabled her to cultivate long-lasting relationships with her clients. She believes nothing is more rewarding than to work with people who appreciate and have complete trust in what you do.
Shruti Jalan
Design Principal
Born and educated in Mumbai, Shruti received her Interior Designing & Decoration degree from Sophia Polytechnic in 1997 and is registered with the Indian Institute of Interior Designers. She has worked with Nozer Wadia Associates on a number of projects like hotels, offices and weekend homes. Her skills lie in communicating design ideas to the clients, helping them perceive the language of design. Her deep understanding of the nature of the practice enables her to micromanage all aspects of the projects – right from the design development, to attention to detail, to keeping the project within limits set by the clients and finally realizing her dream. Her adventurous and at the same time pragmatic approach has helped ns*a evolve into a dynamic design practice with its own definitive language and principles.
